Club Picnic - June 16

More than 30 members attended in our annual picnic, held this year at Sandy Bottom Nature Park on Saturday, June 16. Thirteen people participated in the day’s first event at 8:00 AM, a field trip led by park ranger Mark Nichols. We recorded 39 species, with highlights being Black Skimmer, Least Tern and close-up views of a Green Heron. At the picnic area some of us had great looks at a nesting Great-crested Flycatcher.

The picnic was set up at the Parker Pavilion, a covered shelter with lots of picnic tables. Lee Bell grilled plenty of hamburgers and hot dogs, with assistance from Tom Claydon. With all the talented cooks in the club, we had quite a spread of side dishes and desserts. Officers for 2007-08 were installed, and everyone agreed the format for this year’s event was a huge success!
